Not a good start for the FedEx Cup. News came out today that Tiger Woods will not be playing in the first ever FedEx Cup match. The Barclays is the first tournament in the 4 tournament playoff for the PGA Tour. Tiger leads the FedEx Cup standings by like 100,000 points anyways, so he can probably afford to take the week off and still win the damn thing.
But you know this type of stunt has to piss off Commissioner Finchem. Tiger said all year long that he supports the FedEx Cup and that he would play in all the events. However, today Woods said on his Web site that “I have said all along, my intention was to compete in all four PGA Tour Playoff events, including the inaugural Barclays Classic. But the truth is, I’m just not ready.” He then added, “My body is spent and I need a short break.”
Hopefully Tiger is telling the truth and not just trying to snubb the PGA Tour.

Don’t you love Tiger Woods cliche post titles? We at Mugdish never get tired of them. Our Tiger Woods prediction for the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills was fulfilled. Despite the wretched heat, Tiger was able to separate himself from the field and win the PGA by 2 strokes.
This marks Tiger’s first Major championship victory with his wife and baby on sight. I can’t wait to see Tiger reunite with his family in similar fashion to Phil Mickelson.
Tiger is now only 5 majors away from tying Jack Nicklaus. He won’t get it next year, but realistically Tiger could tie the record in 2009.
Next stop: The 2007 Fedex Cup… which Tiger already leads the points total by like 100,000. If anyone other then Tiger wins the Fedex Cup, there might be an uproar.
This week’s PGA Championship at Southern Hills marks the last opportunity of the year for Tiger to win a major. It’s not like Tiger has been playing poorly this year. He has a top 10 finish in practically every tournament he’s played in. So what’s with Tiger when it comes to the Majors? He’s letting these no namers beat him out for what is rightfully his. You don’t think having a kid has gotten to him has it?
Whatever funk he is in, my money is on El Tigre snapping it this weekend. There’s no way he’s going to get blanked this year. We just need someone like Rory to come along and smack talk Tiger to the public. I mean, talking shit about the best golfer in the world won’t get him fired up will it?
I would love to see a Tiger and Rory final pairing on Sunday. That would surely give us at Mugdish something to write about.
