August 8th, 2007Barry Bonds Hits 756

Barry Bonds finally did it. In the 5th inning last night on a 3-2 pitch from Nationals pitcher Mike Bacsik, Bonds hit his 756th homerun into the right center stands of AT&T Park. You’ve got to give props to Bacsik for not pitching around Barry. “I told him I wanted to go after him and challenge him if the situation presented itself. I was trying to get him out,” Bocsik said.
For the past few months Hammerin’ Hank had been silent about Barry’s pursuit of the most coveted record in all of sports. However, last night during the 10 minute ceremony, a video came on the jumbotron of Aaron congratulating Bonds. Giants COO Larry Baer said there would be a surprise, and that was it. I guess the only question remains is how much money Sue Burns had to pay for it?
We’ve watched Barry from a small ‘go get em’ type kid in the mid 80s, to a monster Heman in the early 2000s. Through all the steroid controversy, Barry managed to stay focused on his goal of breaking the homerun record. Most athletes would have folded.
Barry should take in his record and cherish it. Hold on tight and take a lot of pictures. By my watch, Alex Rodriguez has about 6 years away till he is the all-time leader.
In case you missed it last night, here’s the video.
